Take Out Tuesday – A new pizza spot and the best breakfast sandwiches in town

Welcome to a new blog feature – Take Out Tuesday! Here I will showcase some takeaway/delivery options in Doha, Al Wakra and as far north as I can find… This week – a new pizza spot run by familiar friends on the foodie scene and perhaps the best breakfast sandwiches in town…

Crust by Rusk

Still in soft opening, this place is from the peeps who brought us the stylish Msheireb hangout, Rusk. Sourdough pizzas are on the menu here as are a number of amped up sides and extras. Tis is one of a new breed of pizza joints offering “artisanal” pizza – quality rather than all out big brand quantity. We tried the bacon and truffled honey pizza – it travelled well and was an interesting balance between sweet and savory – the beef bacon gave a hint of smoke while the honey was very forward but not too cloying. We loved the puffed, chewy crust as well. Heads up though – the pizzas are on the smaller side.

Sides were very interesting – the “adult” mac and cheese (QR50 and a generous portion) was again dusted with beef bacon and the cheese had a real bite. Such a change from the usual underwhelming versions I’ve seen on menus here. A word about the packaging – minimal plastic which was great to see.

Price on the pizzas range from QR55 to QR110 for the black truffle – definitely the splurge end of the scale but on first blush the ingredients are unique and good quality. A side dish surprise was the fried zucchini with yoghurt (QR35) – five huge batons of zucchini in a light batter – the serving was huge. I would have liked more of the tangy yoghurt sauce as it provided a good foil. Crust is on both Talabat and Snoonu.

Crack Cafe

The breakfast/egg sandwich craze is still going strong and among the many now in the market, this remains a firm favorite. Selling only renditions of egg sandwiches, hash browns and drinks, the offering is short and sharp. There are seven sandwiches including one burger all served in potato buns, which nicely hold everything together. The mushroom truffle is creamy with a faint hint of truffle, a bit of spice from sriracha mayo.

The star of the menu is the egg with pastrami – a decent slice of seasoned beef pastrami with a sunny side up egg ad house made chili jam. Not overstuffed and very well seasoned. Goooooood morning! Hash browns are small, perfectly browned and best ordered in multiples (I mean, this is personal, but hash browns are life). All items travel well and are available on Talabat and Snoonu.

While you are here…

As I mentioned this will be a regular feature – so hit me up for any types of cuisines you are keen to see here. Both orders mentioned above were paid for myself. Here are some other posts and interesting events/openings and happenings:
