5 Doha Happy Hours To Ease You Back into Things

So here we are folks – the back end of Qatar’s COVID-19 lockdown and we can get out and about – in a safe manner. So where to find a Doha happy hour to ease you back into things? I’ve got you covered!

1. La Mar Sunset Hours

With its unbeatable location, sexy interiors and fabulous food, La Mar’s late week Sunset Hours are the perfect way to slide into the weekend. Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 4pm to 7pm the menu includes small plates to share like their famed cebiches, empanadas and causas.

Be sure to seek out their seafood laden take on Peruvian pizza. Drinks start from QR45 for a glass of wine, QR49 for cocktails and QR35 for food. Reservations are essential.

Must order: The Peruvian pizza and a glass of sangria.

2. Uncorked Mondays at Four Seasons Doha

Every Monday evening at the Fabulous Library Bar you can buy a bottle of wine from their special list of rose, white and red wines. The options change regularly. You also enjoy a selection of their beautifully paired canapes. A very gown-up evening.

Must order: go with the sommelier’s suggestions and you can’t go wrong.

3. The Curry House

I really rate this place – it has great food, a casual vibe and friendly staff. All attributes missing from many places in this city. They have one of the longest happy hours in town – running daily from 1pm to 7pm where beers are QR33. They also have a great deal where you get two free appetizers when you buy a bottle of wine from a select list. Cricket fans should also check out their special snack menu for the IPL games.

Must order: Kadhi chicken pops from their fusion menu

4. Mulberry Tavern

It takes a lot to lure me to The Pearl, but this place has my attention. Doha’s only gastropub, the vibe is fun and the food menu involves twists on classics like chicken liver pate, platters of meats and cheeses and of course, burgers. Happy Hour runs Sunday to Wednesday from 3pm to 8pm and Saturday from 5pm to 8pm. Reservations are essential as this place fills up quickly. It’s a pub, so bring your ID and no kids can enter.

Must order: Their chicken liver pate has converted this skeptic. Also the octopus – trust me.

5. Taco Wednesdays at El Cedro Tasting Room

I checked this place out pre-COVID (remember those carefree times) and I continue to be impressed with this hidden away bar at the Sharq Village and Spa. This is a food focused happy hour where you get three rounds of soft tacos plus drinks like margaritas for QR280. It’s very generous and a bit fun. Every Wednesday from 7pm to 10pm. Bookings essential.

Must order: all the tacos

What’s next?

So here we are folks – this will keep you fed and watered as we roll uncertainly to the end of 2020. Thanks for all of your messages about the blog – I put it on hiatus for a couple of months for two reasons. One is that I wanted to see the food and drink scene settle after the lockdown. So much was in flux.

Secondly, I’m not just about vast lists – people want real and honest recommendations and I wanted to share my actual experiences. The monthly hit lists return in earnest next month and keep a look out for some special content. Thanks for reading guys!
