Let’s face it, sometimes you need to blow off steam and unwind after a tough week at (or day!) at the coalface. Lucky for us, hotels and bars in Doha are keen to attract our custom with some new and interesting happy hours designed to please even the the most discerning drinker.
Here are three new Doha happy hours that have managed to drag me off the sofa in recent weeks and ones you should be giving a red hot go:
Gin and Vodka flight at Elements at Four Seasons Doha
They say everything comes in threes, and in this case, three is a lucky number. Element’s discrete bar has some of the best gins and vodkas on offer and they have used this exclusivity to create a “tasting flight”. That’s three gins or three vodkas each with a matching bite to eat. I loved the gin flight – especially the G’Vine gin which I haven’t tried before. The gins are paired with premium tonic and the vodkas matching juice/cordials (check out the cranberry/hibiscus ones). At QR140 for the flight of three (from 5pm daily), this is a lovely mid-week treat or catch up with friends.

If you want something a little more decadent, head upstairs to the Library Bar for their foie gras menu – highlights include a surprising apple and foie gras mille-feuille and the lush tart with mushroom.

You have to hand it to the W, it’s the master of reinvention. This is truly a Doha hotel that gets it – understands that the market wants value for money but not compromise on quality. Their re-branded happy hour in the ever popular Market restaurant will soon be one of the hottest tickets in town. Dubbed “After Dark” it’s from 5pm to 7pm every day except Friday and offers a selection of cocktails plus beer for QR25 and wines for QR30. They have bar snacks like their famous calamari or a cheese pizza for QR40.

You can combine it with their excellent Supper Club menu – three courses for QR120 between 5pm and 7pm – order the crispy shrimp and the slow cooked salmon.

But for something completely and insanely “wow”, gather some friends and enjoy the collective meat sweats from the Meating Point offer. That’s a 1.4kg Us Tomahawk steak with a selection of sides (mac and cheese!) and dessert for QR650 with softdrinks or QR790 with a bottle of wine. Hold me.

Smoke and Mirrors at Mondrian Doha
Never heard of this spot? Well, to be fair it’s VERY new. The freshly minted Cigar Bar at the Mondrian Doha has a fantastic offer every Wednesday – unlimited tapas AND sangria for QR149. That’s one way to ease into the weekend.

So there we are – three fantastic happy hours to whet your appetite.

Whilst I’m happy for the cigar aficionados to have yet another place to enjoy their stinky vice, I just wish more nonsmoking venues would open up for those of who like to smell as fresh when they leave as when they arrived. Just my 2p
